While in Europe, at the Age of three years old, Anita began to sing. Bding
! preacher's kid, and born to a musical famidy from New Orleans, Louisiana,
it was natural for Anita to not only grow up singing, but grow up singing
in the church. In the 1980's having moved to Ohio, Anita listened to the
sounds of gospel greats, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Commissioned, The Winans,
Andre' Crouch, The Clark Sisters and Tramaine Hawkins. To this day these
musical influences are still a part of Anita's vocal style.
Joshua "Scribe" Colbert
Joshua "Scribe" Colbert blends hip-hop with enlightening lyrics accompanied
by futuristic beats supplied by John "Dirt" Sumpter and Franchise.
Scribe, a self-taught musician, wrote and co-produced his debut album,
“Brain Storming”. His elaborate style and Gil Scott Heron
reminiscent topics, profess an intellectual stream of elevated consciousness.
Songs like, "Head To The Sky", "Illusion" and "I'm
On My Way", broadcast a positive vibe that the world can instantly
absorb.
Elie Kihonia
Elie Kihonia
is the founder of Afrika Yetu and UMOJA African Arts Company. He was born
in the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire) and exposed to both
traditional and neo-traditional African music and dance at an early age.
He began performing at age nine with various youth choirs and in 1980
joined the international GEVAKIN Choir/The Musical Bridge. As a multi-instrumentalist
who plays both African percussion and contemporary instruments, his expertise
includes the xylophone, mbira, hand and set drums, keyboard, accordion
and guitars.
Heather Kropf
“Kropf’s words go beyond rhyming lyrics. They are poems
put to music. Her voice quietly soars with warmth, great tone, honesty,
clarity and beauty." – Tim Stevens, Pittsburgh Magazine
Heather Kropf is a singer/songwriter/producer from Pittsburgh. Her tasteful
arrangements highlight her vocal range, from crystal clear sweetness to
burnished sensuality, singing in styles from jazz to folk, to radio friendly
pop. She has independently produced 2 full-length albums: Sky (2000) and
What Else is Love (2005) and will be familiar to regular WYEP listeners.
Kevin Finn
Here's another man, acoustic guitar, and naked voice. But Pittsburgh
vet Finn has been at this awhile, and he's a special type: he freezes
you in apprehension rather than soothes your soul. It's not just that
this is the kind of quiet that chills; or that his voice, a near-whisper,
comes from deep dark within; or that the occasional spare backing just
makes the mood more precarious. It's his lyrics: full of foreboding for
his mental health, like "It's a long way down to the bottom of the
well." It's a realistic melancholy of loss and long recovery. (Excerpt
from a review by Jack Rabid)

"Change" Lyrics
Change...I get angry when I see people treated unjustly...Our responsibility
is to change this inequality...Change...I won't let it get the best
of me...I'll turn my anger into a seed...That will grow into a tree...And
will bear the fruit of Change
I don't want to defeat you...I didn't come here to beat you...I drove
across town...Just to come here and meet you...So we could talk about
what's going on...I've had it with this static and it's taking too long...We
need another Civil Rights Revolution...So we can come together and find
a solution ...Like Martin Luther King and Nonviolence...It's time to
come together and BREAK THE SILENCE
Change...A blast from the past, a declaration...Independence, but not
for everyone...Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, yes...We
could do more, but we settle for less...As a human being and a white
man...As a world citizen and an American...Until there is justice and
equality...I can't be everything I can be...Change...And the elephant's
living in the living room...(Ah, yeah, have you seen that elephant?)...Why
is it so hard to change?...Now is the time...Now is the time, as Dr.
King said...Now is the time for us ALL to move ahead!
